What do I need to do before using a programmer for the first time?

Preparation before first use

Not everyone who buys a programmer is an engineer — purchasing and sales staff buy them too, and they may not be familiar with how the programmer works. Here MaxWiz explains what needs to be done before using a programmer for the first time.

1. Install the USB driver. Choose the driver file that matches your operating system (see the USB installation guide).

2. Install the PC software for the programmer (dedicated or universal versions). Ask our technical team for the software if you do not have it.

3. Connect the programmer to the target chip.

Three steps to using a programmer

We have already explained what a device programmer is. Here Shenzhen MaxWiz briefly describes the three steps of using one.

1. Connect the programmer to the computer. Different programmers connect in different ways — some use the parallel (printer) port, some the serial port (COM1 or COM2), and many use USB.

2. Install the driver software supplied with the programmer and configure the programmer as required.

3. Run the programmer software and load the data you need from the computer as the data source.
